Mud Motor Steerable Drilling Technology
Scope of Application:
At present, mud motor is one of the most commonly used tools in the trajectory control of directional well and horizontal well. 
(1)Applicable borehole size: 4-3/4 " ---  26"; 
(2)Applicable drilling fluid: water-based and oil-based drilling fluids; 
(3)Temperature resistance: normal temperature motor (120℃),high temperature motor (150℃); 
(4)Adjustable angle of bend (0-3°) and detachable centralizer.  

Technical Principle:
Positive displacement downhole motor mainly consists of bypass valve assembly, motor assembly, universal shaft assembly and drive shaft assembly. At present, anti-drop assembly is also included after gradual improvement in process. The downhole motor transforms the fluid pressure energy of mud into mechanical energy. After flowing into the motor, the high pressure mud forms a certain differential pressure at the inlet and outlet of the motor, so as to drive the rotor rotating around the axis of stator. The torque and revolving speed generated by the motor are transmitted into the bit through universal shaft and transmission shaft, so as to drive the bit and realize drilling operation. The performance of a motor is mainly depends on the performance parameter of the motor.

Technical Features
(1)When other conditions of a well remain unchanged, preference is given to the drilling tool with maximum rigidity, so as to ensure the safety. Take a 12 1/4″ well for example, its optional drilling tools include LZ197, LZ203, LZ210 and LZ244, and LZ197 is the least favorable option; 
(2)The principle of maximum output torque: When other conditions of a well remain unchanged, preference is given to the drilling tool with maximum output torque, so as to ensure sufficient sliding drilling torque. Take a 81/2″ well for example, a multistage large torque drilling tool shall be selected among 5LZ165 drilling tools. 
(3)The principle of appropriate displacement: The screw drilling tool is a kind of positive displacement motor and its output speed is in proportion to its displacement. 
(4)The drilling tool with appropriate displacement shall be selected when displacement is same, so as to ensure a required revolving speed and an optimum motor condition. 
(5)The principle of applicable drilling technology: In order to obtain a maximum angle building hole rate, small drilling tools are preferred. In order to ensure the safety when entering a well, the annulus inside a well shall fit the fishing tools. 
(6)During drilling, drilling tool shall always under its optimum working condition without overloading, so as to increase the service life of drilling tool.
 
Service Ability and Performance
Various models of motors which are applicable for hole sizes from 4  3/4〞to 26〞are available. The company is equipped with a team of high-quality professional technicians who can provide services like prophase tool selection, directional well and horizontal well construction design and on-site technical construction. Take the construction of a horizontal well which was commenced in November 2010 at Yuanba of Sichuan for example, 9½〞open hole side tracking was carried out with a depths of side tracking point of 6680 m, a total depth of 7833 m and a maximum well inclination of 93°. The directional section and the horizontal section were directed by motor. A record of deepest regional horizontal well was established.
