Rotary Steering System
Scope of Application
-Applicable to 6〞-12 1/4〞wells;
-Inclination prevention and deviation rectification for plum shaft;
-Extended-reach directional well and horizontal well.

Technical Principle
The rotary steering tool mainly consists of three components, i.e., (1) theelectronic control circuit and battery module, mechanical components andfulcrum centralizer; (2) the ground command launcher; and (3) the long gaugeprotection PDC bit.
The electronic control system receives ground command and transmits it tohydraulic system, so as to drive the drive shaft moving eccentrically with the pilotsleeve. The deflection direction is opposite to the required deflection direction of well. Taking thecentralizer as a fulcrum, the drive shaft drives the bit drilling along the required defection direction of well and realizes a directional drilling.
The non-rotational rule stops the rotation of outer sleeve. If the sleeve starts to rotate, the system will command the hydraulic system again to maintain the required direction.

Technical Indicators
Technical Features
-No external moving parts exposed in mud;
-Operational capability under HTHP: the operating temperature is 165°and the high pressure operational capability is 25,000 psi;
-DLS: 8-12°/30m;
-Continuous message feedback;
-Real time monitoring and command transmission without wasting drilling time; instruction program adjustable at any time; computer controlled “rotary steering” with drill track perfectly coincides with designed track.
-Modular design.

Service Ability and Performance
Since 2010, the rotary steering drilling technology has been applied on 5 wells with a success rate of 100%. In July 2010, the company provided an extended-reach directional well technology service for its client in the South China Sea with a total depth
of 5682 m and a vertical depth of 3700 m. During construction, the anti-jamming capability of the MWD pulse emitter was strong and the MWD signal was stable. The rotary steering drilling can complete a 6’’ well section with drilling footage of 392 m (5290-5682 m) within one time. Another directional well technology service was provided in November 2010. The rotary steering carried out plumb shaft drilling from 354 m and angle building from 870 m with an angle building hole rate of 4°/30 m. The building section landed at 2670m MD and well TD at 3270m MD. All sections such as vertical, building and horizontal were completed within one run.”
