Motary Steerable System
Motary Steerable System directional control system combined the advantages of two traditional technologies, i.e., the mud motor technology and the rotary steering system (RSS), therefore, the directional drilling is optimized. By introducing the Calibrated Drill Speed Direction  (TBS), a new directive technology, the limitations of conventional mud motor such as requiring direction through sliding and resulting a series of drilling problems are overcame. The full rotary steering system is economical and its advantages are obvious in low angle building hole rate drilling, anti-inclination direct application drilling, extended-reach horizontal well drilling, over-length horizontal well drilling and long angle holding section drilling. The system can not only realize an efficient directional control, but also reduce the risk of drilling. 
 
Scope of Application:
(1)Applicable to 6〞-12 1/4〞wells; 
(2)Applicable to stratum with less possibility of angle building by rotary steering; 
(3)Extended-reach well and over-length horizontal well; 
(4)Geological parameters like gamma, resistance and neutron density cannot be loaded during drilling. 
 
Technical Principle:
In nature, the full rotary steering system is an integrated system which is equipped with a steering motor and a dedicated MWD. By controlling drilling rate with adjustable mud, this technology realizes a fully 3D directional control and continuous rotation of drill string with no more need of sliding. In comparison with conventional mud motor steering technology, this technology has a higher drilling efficiency and a better well cleansing performance.
 
Technical Features:
(1)With a combination of motor and rotary steering, both motor sliding direction and rotary steering can be realized. 
(2)At long angle holding section and horizontal section, full rotary steering of drilling tool can be realized and a smooth well can be obtained. 
(3)The cost of TBS is lower than that of rotary steering.

Service Ability and Performance:
In 2013, the company successfully completed the full rotary steering of 3 wells at an oil field in Liaoning Province. Among all the 8.5’’ wells, the highest angle building hole rate is 3.5 ° /30m. Among all the directional drillings of same kind at same block, the sliding ratio of wells using full rotary steering technology is 35% lower.
